Business Development & Consultancy – International Development Finance

Starting mid-April 2023 (40h/week), Berlin

LANDT is looking for a Junior Analyst (f/m/d). This position is designed to support the various areas of LANDT’s global business development and project management activities. This includes actively acquiring new businesses, preparing for competitive tenders, expanding the pool of external technical consultants, supporting the management and implementation of consulting projects, and strategic thinking on tapping into development sector funding sources and stakeholders. This position will be ideally based in Berlin, Germany, but open to considering (partial) remote working possibilities for exemplary candidates outside of Germany.

Your Tasks:

The tasks are classified under the following core areas:

Business development

  • Identify relevant new business opportunities in the areas of credit guarantee funds, MSME finance, and broader ‘access to finance’ related topics in line with LANDT’s business strategy
  • Develop concept notes, undertake research activities, and conduct consultation meetings with internal and external stakeholders
  • Evaluate business opportunities and recommend acquisition strategies – Identify suitable external consultants for projects using in-house recruiting tools
  • Work closely with the communication team on aligning external communication material of business development activities

Bid management

  • Liaise with LANDT staff and other external technical experts to develop and implement a robust proposal strategy
  • Support in the tendering process includes the approach to scoping the project, developing a list of activities, estimating the required level of effort, preparing work plans and budgets, and supporting other planning areas
  • Support integrating feedback and carry out proposal revisions
  • Identify partners, carry out partner assessments, and draft MoUs
  • Compile proposal documents in a structured format as per the standards of the tendering institution in a timely manner
  • Draft service agreements for consultants/vendors

Project management

  • Ensure the overall smooth implementation of projects, explicitly tracking project work plans, monitoring progress and timelines, setting goals and objectives within projects, and coordinating with external and internal stakeholders
  • Manage changes to the scope of work, costs, and project timelines
  • Financial reporting of the project against budget. This includes liaising with finance managers and/or the CFO to go through the project budget and actively resolving any financial issues
  • Prepare work presentations and briefing documents and facilitate periodic internal team meetings
  • Ensure high quality of project deliverables
  • Facilitate strategic communication within the project team and with clients
  • Act as the facilitator between in-house LANDT staff and external resources (consultants)
  • Coordinate priorities and resources among multiple projects as well as cross-functional meetings

Your Profile:

  • Master’s degree (or comparable) in business, economy, finance, or other relevant fields
  • 2+ years of relevant full-time work experience in consulting with a focus on international development finance
  • Previous experience with submitting project bids (at least 2).
  • Supported the implementation of projects (at least 1) for international development institutions such as the World Bank Group, KfW, GIZ, DFIs, and EU institutions
  • Proven knowledge of procurement processes of international development institutions
  • Understanding of MSME finance topics
  • Ability to respond to tight deadlines with effective prioritization among multiple workstreams
  • Desire to take ownership of assigned activities with the ability to work and deliver independently
  • Eye for details, highly structured, and willing to understand nuances and go deeper into topics
  • Outstanding presentation skills with the ability to present complexities in an articulate and clear manner
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • High level of proficiency in the English language. Proficiency in other World Bank working languages is a plus
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office applications
